Local Author Showcase:

  • Rough Draft Bar & Books 82 John Street Kingston, NY, 12401 United States (map)

Please join us for an evening highlighting four local authors and their recently published works. Each author will have a table for meet-and-greets, book signings, and conversation with friends, family, fans, and potential new readers. This month's event features JP Cohen, Rashon Forrest, Daniel Guilfoyle, and Daniel Maidman.

RSVPs are not required, but they are appreciated. (They help us keep in touch in case of changes, and let us know how many people to expect.) Fans are welcome to bring books from home to have signed, or to purchase books here. Refreshments and beverages are also available for purchase throughout the event. Please, no outside food or drink.

About the authors:

JP Cohen owns and operates the Matchbox Café in Rhinebeck NY with her husband, Sam Cohen. She writes and performs her comic essays at various venues in Manhattan, Dutchess County, and occasionally at tableside - but only when provoked. Sorry, We're Open! is a comical retelling of the experiences of service workers to try to reshape the way customers think about service.

Rashon Forrest was born with several congenital disabilities, including spina bifida, hydrocephalus, and clubfoot. In 2015, she used her degree (bachelor of arts in broadcast journalism) to create a documentary to celebrate her 20 years of cognitive awareness of living with spina bifida. In addition to video production and authoring, Rashon launched a candle-making business, Daylight Candles 2020. Life in the Daylight is the story of the obstacles Rashon has faced and how she has learned to embrace those challenges.

Daniel Guilfoyle is a clinical social worker who lives and works in Middletown NY. He has published another book on memory improvement entitled "From Shrink to Think: A Mental Journey through the Memory Journey" in 2020. He is a four time National USA Memory competitor. From Detect to Intellect: Uncovering the Memory Skills of Sherlock Holmes is a book about how to use your memory in different ways and to understand how the fictional sleuth was able to use the same methods in his adventures.

Daniel Maidman is an author, artist, and art critic. His art is included in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress Department of Prints and Drawings and a number of American art museums. His art and writing on art have been featured in The Huffington Post, ARTnews, Forbes, W, and many others. The Exile of Zanzibar presents a fantasy series starter set during a brutal war steeped in magic and myth.
