Join us for a Local Author Showcase!
We’ve invited the authors of two new books to Rough Draft Bar & Books for a meet and greet event. Each author will have their own space to greet customers. Visitors to Rough Draft are encouraged to engage with the authors, learn about the books, and take home a signed copy if they wish, and of course sample some of Rough Draft’s delicious drinks and snacks!
This month’s featured authors are:
Alvin Eng is author of the memoir Our Laundry, Our Town: My Chinese American Life from Flushing to the Downtown Stage and Beyond. From behind the counter of his parents' laundry on Union Street and a household rooted in a different century and culture to the turbulent, exciting streets of 1970s New York City, playwright Alvin Eng shares his riveting, tender story of finding voice, identity and community through the transformative power of Asian American arts, activism, punk rock, and theater.
Mark Morgenstern left a budding music career behind when he realized he didn’t want to wind up in a mid-level boogie band somewhere in the hinterlands of America. He parlayed a long-term literary interest into an MA in Creative Writing from the City University of New York, subsequently subbing in a high school and booking music acts in his family cafe. In The House of the Seven Heavens we journey with Davora, youngest daughter of a Polish immigrant family as she navigates the social and spatial labyrinth of a slightly sideways mid-20th century New York City.
Reservations are not required to attend this meet and greet, and reserving at ticket on Eventbrite does not guarantee a seat. (Reservations are still appreciated, however; they help us stay in touch and communicate changes if needed, and they give us an idea of how many people to expect.)
