Join us for a Local Author Showcase!
We’ve invited the authors of three new books to Rough Draft Bar & Books for a meet and greet event. Each author will have their own space to greet customers. Visitors to Rough Draft are encouraged to engage with the authors, learn about the books, and take home a signed copy if they wish, and of course sample some of Rough Draft’s delicious drinks and snacks!
This month’s featured authors are:
W.J. Herbert’s debut collection, Dear Specimen, (Beacon Press, 2021) was selected by Kwame Dawes as a winner of the 2020 National Poetry Series and awarded the 2022 Maine Literary Award for Poetry. Her work, named by Allison Joseph as winner the 2022 Arts & Letters/Rumi Prize for Poetry, also appears in Alaska Quarterly Review, The Atlantic, Best American Poetry 2017, Boulevard, The Hudson Review, Pleiades, Southwest Review, and elsewhere. She was named a Howard Nemerov Scholar to the 2022 Sewanee Writers’ Conference and awarded the 2019 upstreet scholarship to the Vermont College of Fine Arts Postgraduate Writers’ Conference. Herbert served for seven years as coordinator of the bimonthly poetry series and annual poetry competition offered by dA Center for the Arts in Pomona, California. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Southern California where she earned a bachelor’s in studio art and a master’s in flute performance. She lives in Kingston, New York and Portland, Maine.
Kwyn Bader is a multiple award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter, and author whose work explores history, race, music, and culture from the unique vantage point of his bi-racial background and multi-cultural upbringing. He is the writer and director of the SXSW Film Festival Winner for Best Feature Film, Loving Jezebel. He has also written the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary Birth of a Movement; the documentary film Tuskegee Airmen: American Heroes; and features and TV screenplays for various Hollywood studios.
Kwyn is also a successful creative executive who serves as the Senior Global Director of Creative Strategy for ViacomCBS Consumer Products, helping translate shows and movies from iconic brands Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and Paramount into products sold all over the world.
Living Aligned (Kathrine Mitchell) as an intuitive, author creating art and facilitating people to be their most amazing self. My manuscript is completed, which attempts to bridge the laws of science and spirit with the Aligning Method. It has the intention to help us realign with our highest intelligence, find peace within our hearts and mind…and simply create a blissful life!
I have a simple yet life long mission to empower the individual and assist them in finding their own strength. It’s the only way we can make favorable changes in our lives.
To be innovative in life, we will need a bit of insight so we may discover our unique life path and soul journey.
